Advantages and disadvantages of gallium nitride charger and application development


Recently, gallium nitride, a new technology, has attracted a wave of interest in chargers. Gallium nitride chargers are quickly applied by manufacturers because of their small size and high efficiency.  So what is gallium nitride, and how are gallium nitride chargers different from other chargers?

What is gallium nitride  


Gallium nitride (GaN) is a compound of nitrogen and gallium, which has specific semiconductor characteristics and was applied in light-emitting diodes in the early stage. It belongs to the same element cycle group with commonly used silicon, with high hardness, high melting point and strong stability.  Gallium nitride material is an important semiconductor material for the development of micro-electronic devices. 2. Advantages and disadvantages of gallium nitride charger  


Advantages: small size, safety  


Compared with silicon material of common semiconductor, gallium nitride has wider band gap and better thermal conductivity, which can match transformer with smaller volume and high-power inductor. Therefore, gallium nitride charger has advantages of small size, high efficiency and safety.  In order to achieve faster charging speed, the recent flagship phone and tablet, the charger power is relatively large, 40W50W charger is very common.  More charging power means that chargers are getting bigger and hotter.

With gallium nitride technology, the charger can be greatly reduced in size, making it very portable, while maintaining high efficiency and low temperature, which makes it safer.

Disadvantages: High cost
